Adequate but not the best....

I can appreciate what the author's were trying to do here: an atlas in a high yield question book style format. While I applaud the effort, I think the book falls short. The pictures are great but the explanations for these pictures are not adequate to learn a whole lot from. Not as high yield as I would hope, with some odd ball pics that even after you review the answer leaves you scratching your head. The format is also a bit difficult to review in a quick manner as there are too many pics on one page with the explanations all the way at the end of the section. Would like to see a version where the answers are on the very next page so you don't have to constantly flip back and forth.

Overall, not worth the price. I was using it for OKAP and boards and found it pretty useless. The pics are nice though.

Witty and useful book

True to its title, “60 Minutes to Better Health” is a book chockfull of useful health tips, each one easily read in a minute. A few pages into the book I found myself liking this author and doctor; no doubt you will as well as you take in the health and wellness tips he presents in a homespun yet professional manner, with a bit of wit thrown in for fun. This is one of those books to leave up on your computer to come back to when you need a break from a tedious task; you may find yourself referring back to it once finished.
For example, did you know that there are foods that can improve your sex life? Yep, but I’m not telling you. You gotta read the book. If you do, you’ll also find out how you can get teenagers to stop being so recalcitrant as well as why you shouldn’t feel guilty about that glass of wine you drink every night.
All in all, “60 Minutes to Better Health” is a fun and useful book from a doctor with personality. Well worth a read.

Brilliant and witty read while educating about health. Dr Joe is a medical professional without the attitude, who is intent on helping people maximise and control their health and wellbeing by empowerment and education. This practical book removes all the jargon and lingo. Well worth reading, and a constant reference source. Love it.

Gifted it to my mother for her birthday, she loves it! She had been searching for this book (in more than one country). She has a very older version of it (pages have yellowed with age) and this reprint is exactly what she has been looking for.

Beautiful Upgraded Reprint of the 1918 Edition

In this moden reprint edition, every line, every page turn, is right there as I knew it from the 1918 edition that I "shredded with exuberance" from when I was growing up and leaning to play (like my Mom, who had a BA in Music). About the selection of pieces? Delightful, from classical (Hayden and Mozart) to modern (Russian composers). Some pieces are excerpts from longer works; having played the excerpts, you will want to learn the complete works from which they come -- or at least some of them. (Alas, I lost all my sheet music in a flood, but thanks to Amazon, I'm replacing a lot of it. This book was one I had despaired of ever seeing again. Thanks, Amazon!)

Now, the thing is, once I have the book in my hands, I have to go practice! With a nice selection of pieces like you will find here, it's going to be fun!

Take your team to a new level with this book!

My agile team has used retrospectives for years and thought we were pretty good at them. The activities and ideas in this well-written, well-organized book take our retrospectives to a whole new level. Now if we can't remember what we did in the previous two weeks (it's surprising how poor our memories can be!), or are stumped for ideas on how to address a prickly issue, we can just turn to the book for a way to jump-start a beneficial change.

I had no idea there were so many different approaches to getting value via retrospectives. The activities are all simple, and illustrated with many figures and examples. Even if you're not very experienced at leading these types of meetings, the book will give you confidence.

The authors also explain when and why to do different types of retrospectives. For example, I hadn't thought of having project retrospectives for our agile team, since we already have iteration retrospectives, but now I can see how they can be managed for good effect. Most importantly, the book explains how to use the information and ideas produced in a retrospective to effect real change. It's easy to get complacent and not strive to do better, and this book will help your team be proactive.

The book's organization makes it a good reference guide too. Anytime your team is in a rut or having a problem, you could pick an activity out of this book to kick start things. I love user-friendly books such as this one.

Reality Check

After the first 100 pages, I was ready to give this book a single star. Then it made its way back by producing some stimulus in the center of the book, basically talking about some techniques for eliciting and then analyzing feedback (made it back to a 4, 5 is ludicrous just from the content perspective, this thing is thin in every sense of the word). But then, it fell back to a 3 because ultimately the many examples are laid out as if they were patterns, but there is little to no structure. Finally, the conclusion section goes back to some of the silliness of the beginning. What I am referring to as silliness is the constant enveloping of process suggestions with new agey psychobabble. I found that 80% of the time, this additional stuff was noise.

Ultimately, I was left convinced (as probably all who have done iterative could easily be) that retrospectives are a good thing, but a strong conviction that they could be done better than what is being espoused here. There are a few good ideas, and the overall presentation is good. That's all.
