High expectations, low satisfaction

This book is aimed at analysing costing issues in business. However, I didn't find much useful information. Too many calculations of more or less same issue. I would have preffered to see more costing methods taking into considerations different types of businesses (industrial but also tourist and services business). I thought to use this book as one of my bibiliographic list regarding a business administration course which I conduct, but this book wouldn't be so helpfull. Compared to other books, this book failed to offer value for money,to the best of my judgment.

Masculinities in Theory: An EXCELLENT Introduction

This book is very welcome because it really expands the scope of gender studies for those of us who want to take an approach to gender through the humanities, as opposed to, say, the social sciences or hard sciences. Most other books on masculinity with a broad, interdisciplinary scope tend to be written from a social science angle. This book thus seems to fill a gap in the study of masculinity for folks like me. In 10 chapters covering most disciplines of the humanities, Reeser discusses key concepts of masculinity, and admirably demonstrates the complexity of the term. I especially appreciated the chapter one which lays out some basic theoretical models that are then used in more specific contexts later in the book. When you finish reading the book, you really have a sense of how unstable and complex ideas of masculinity are, and you possess tools to better question your own preconceived ideas on masculinity (and the gender system in a larger sense). The book is written in very clear and comprehensible prose (when there is jargon, it is clearly explained). My sense is that this book will particularly appeal to curious and interested beginning students of masculinity. It will also probably interest instructors who teach gender studies, and any "lay-person" who likes to think. In short, highly recommended.

Tom Mount wrote the book on Technical Diving when he wrote this book. It has everything: gear config, tables and deco schedules, physiology, techniques for propulsion and minimal silt disturbance. It is the Encyclopedia. I read my friends and had to buy one for myself. Great reference book too.

If you want to be a better diver, even if you only dive warm, shallow reefs, read this book!

A Reference on Technical Diving

Curious about what is tech diving about, what are the limitations, how is it accomplished or just want to be better informed? Either way this book is an excellent source of information and much of it applies to all diving.
Sure, you know that EVERY dive is a decompression dive, right? Maybe you wonder about the how's and why's of technical diving. Maybe your are already a techinical diver but want to learn more. Then again, maybe you are very happy with sport diving but would like to become more knowledgable about what is affecting you on every dive. This is a comprehensive work covering all aspects of techinical diving knowledge at the time of publication. Dive physiology, equipment type and application, dive tables and tidbits of information from a recognized leader in the tech diving community. Tech diving is not for everyone, but this book provides useful in-depth information for every dive enthusiast. What is the Hogarthian style, how is configured, and why? Do I really need to keep in shape for diving? Why does that diver carry so many tanks, lights, and reels? When is a boat a dingy? My favorite aspect of the book is the way mental attitudes are addressed, "Believe you will or believe you won't, either way you are right". With this text a reader can learn that there is training and technology available to make you a safer diver and also to take you beyond the recreational dive envelope.

Malvar gives an in-depth and complete look at state of the art in lapped transforms for signal coding. Lapped transforms are algorithms such as DFT, DCT, MDCT. The different transforms are compared and contrasted showing the functional equivalency of different algorithms. Computational complexity and optimization techniques are shown for the different transforms. Example code is supplied.
A very fine reference work. Assumes background knowledge in basic DSP.
