"Soldier" the exciting and gripping third book in the "Talon" series continues as Talon and St. George hunt for the rogues Ember Hill, Riley (aka ex-Basilisk Cobalt) and the soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian. The story picks up when Garret journeys to England the home of the Order of St. George and its Patriarch only to uncover a deadly secret and treacherous coalition that will shake the foundations of both organizations. When he discovers a plan to entrap and kill Ember and Riley, Garret engages the help of a new ally with the hope of returning in time to save the two rogue dragons.

After his dismal failure in capturing his sister Dante is enlisted by Talon to work on a secret project that will not only bolster their dragon army, but could mean the massacre of humanity. Although plagued by conscience Dante will do anything in his power to rise in Talon's hierarchy, and in fulfilling his duty will learn a shocking truth.

Set against a background of war between dragons and dragonslayers, odds against the rogues surviving the escalating clash mount as they learn a dangerous secret behind the growing number of attacks by the soldiers of St. George that could destroy Riley's underground network. Woven into this fascinating page-turner Garret's past and his training as a soldier after the death of his parents are revealed, giving new insight into his dedication to the Order and his beliefs before awakening to the truth of both.

One of the themes of this story centers around the fragility of life as dragonslayer missions escalate even attacking a peaceful temple, with a secret alliance that forces an agonizing decision, as well as the brutality of Talon's cloning scheme to supplement their breeding facilities. This plot is fast-paced and action-packed as Ember, Riley and Garret escape entrapment, raid a library, and are confronted with a deadly duel. Each new twist in the plot fuels the intensity and suspense until culminating in a shocking ending that begs for another novel.

And amid all the violence and turmoil Ember is faced with an agonizing decision about her feelings for Garret and Riley; one possessive and protective, the other conflicted and tormented. Yet as she struggles an Eastern Dragon adds a further complication to her emotional turmoil when she's told of the "Sallith'tahn" , a dragon's instinct to find their life-mate; an inclination thought eliminated by Talon to ensure the dragons devotion to their cause. But in a story that revolves around choices, Ember is determined to make her own decision about who to love which could have tragic repercussions in a world where death is never far away and the price of freedom is costly.

Ember Hill who's sick of all the killing, yearning for peace between dragons and humans continually matures as the series progresses. Stubborn, smart and resourceful she begins to accept the consequences of her life as a rogue. Like all the characters in this series Ember's personality continues to grow as she not only faces Talon's conniving manipulation in the war but is wounded again by St. George's soldiers. Brash and defiant Riley (aka the dragon Cobalt) is steadfast in his determination to protect his safe houses and the hatchlings. Hot-tempered, brash he's also cunning, brave and honourable, never yielding to his temptation to kill his rival. In contrast Garret Sebastian is a steady, unshakable soldier who wants to make amends for the blood he spilled. Frustrated and hurt when he left for England, his love and respect for Ember is constant, never changing. All these characters and many more like the serene, practical and empathetic Eastern dragon Jade; the arrogant and devious Patriarch; and Ember's ambitious but conflicted brother Dante continue to add power and passion to the evolving action and drama.

I give "Soldier" the third book in this highly imaginative and captivating series high praise I'm looking forward to the next story by this talented writer.

Bring on, Legion!

Seriously, the end, not only shook me up but left me panting like a dog in heat for more! I have a love/hate relationship with endings like this. I loved how it went but hate that I have to wait.
I liked the action in this one best of the three books so far. The romance was kind of on the back burner as the dragons and humans fought. Like, really fight in an all out war. But where it leads is what's cool.
Nothing like I expected, and that's a good thing, and yet still predictable in parts that worked.
I love this series, and can't wait to continue. Sad I have to anyway.
You really should read this if you like dragons. You will be thoroughly entertained.

Julie Kagawa never disappoints

Julie Kagawa never disappoints. Book 3 of the Talon saga continues to build on the world, as we're moved beyond the small town feeling in book 1 and even Las Vegas in book 2. It's a whole new ball game with Garret doing his investigation on the Order in England and running into new and exciting characters I won't spoil here, but I will say that we get a chance to see much more diverse dragons than just those within Talon or the rogue group. The character relations continue to be dynamic and interesting on all levels (though I have to say I could do without the love triangle), with Dante and Garret ending up as two characters I look forward to reading most about. Cannot wait for book 4!

Generally a Useful Text

Throughout the text, Feldmeier strings together Piaget, Kohlberg, Gilligan, Ericsson, and John of the Cross, among others, walking through the human age groups from birth to death. Feldmeier's biases as a male academic who has not himself raised children are apparent in some discussions. But if the text is read understanding the limitations of the background of the author, it is useful. Particular strengths are the chapters on midlife and beyond.

One of the best authors when it comes to Intensive, Heartwrenching and Realistic

I love it, gives me a great incite on Chinese culture and history. I've been looking for a story like this, one of a kind. Many authors writing similar genres in english just can't measure up! I want to say so much more but that would be spoiling! I hope you write another historical book soon.

Suspenseful and painfully beautiful

I don't know what to say about this story. I didn't expect to like it, but once I found out who the characters were I got into it. It reminded me a little bit of The Captive Prince series.

When Shicai finds out that his father betrayed the Imperial family, causing the death of his best friend the prince, Lan Yu, Shicai sets his path to creating a world freer of corruption, hate and war that lead to his family ruin and the shatter of his heart. Xuechi is a playboy noble and no one really takes him seriously. Needless to say, Shicai and Xuechi have an antagonistic relationship, on the outside. On the inside it is something else all together.

I wish I could give this a 4 star or even less because of the not-happily ever after ending. I cried and I was angry. This is slowly developing story, with well developed characters so the wait is worth it to see how the story unfolds. Chinese names and terms are a bit hard to follow, but the author provides a glossary, and footnotes which helps a lot. I really wish there were a sequel to this work of emotional battery called art, but I know there won't be. Yeyu does a fantastic job of creating a unique world to enthrall readers. There's not a lot of action, more angst than anything. This will leave you in tears, but is still a beautiful story.

The topics are organized and presented in such a manner that they motivate and-challenge students to present technically and economically viable solutions to a wide variety of questions and problems, including product design. Since the publication of the third edition, there have been rapid and significant advances in various areas in manufacturing. The fourth edition of Manufacturing Processes for Engineering Materials, while continuing with balanced coverage of the relevant fundamentals, analytical approaches, and applications, reflects these new advances.

About the Author

Serope Kalpakjian taught and conducted research at the Illinois Institute of Technology for 38 years prior to his retirement in 2001 as professor emeritus of mechanical and materials engineering. After graduating from Robert College (high honors), Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he joined Cincinnati Milacron, where he was a research supervisor in advanced metal-forming processes. He is the author of numerous technical papers and several articles in handbooks and encyclopedias and has edited various conference proceedings. In addition, Professor Kalpakjian has served on the editorial bards of several journals and the Encyclopedia Americana and is the coauthor of Lubricants and Lubrication in Metalworking Operations. Both first editions of his textbooks, Manufacturing Processes for Engineering Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and Technology, have received the M. Eugene Merchant Manufacturing Textbook Award. He is a Life Fellow of the ASME, Fellow of the SME, Fellow and Life Member of ASM International, emeritus member of CIRP (International Institution for Production Engineering Research), and a founding member and past president of NAMRI/SME.

Among the awards Professor Kalpakjian has received are the Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation Best Paper Award (1966), an Excellence in Teaching Award from IIT (1970), the Centennial Medallion from the ASME (1980), the International Education Award from the SME (1989), a Person of the Millennium Award from IIT (1999), and the Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher Award from ASM International (2000). SME named the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award after Professor Kalpakjian for the year 2002.

Steven R. Schmid is an associate professor with the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Notre Dame, where he teaches and performs research in the general areas of manufacturing, machine design, and tribology. As the director of the Manufacturing Tribology Laboratory at the university, he oversees industry- and government-funded research on a variety of manufacturing topics, including tribological issues in rolling, forging and sheet-metal forming, polymer processing, medical-device design and manufacture, and nanomechanics.

He received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (with honors) and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, both in mechanical engineering, from Northwestern University. He has received numerous awards, including the John T Parsons Award from the SME (2000), the Newkirk Award from the ASME (2000), and the Kaneb Center Teaching Award (2000). He is the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREERS Award (1996) and an ALCOA Foundation Award (1994). Dr. Schmid is the author of over 50 technical papers; has edited three conference proceedings; has coauthored two books, Fundamentals o f Machine Elements and Manufacturing Engineering and Tecbnology; and has contributed two chapters to the CRC Handbook of Modern Tribology. He serves on the Tribology Division Executive Committee of the ASME, is an associate editor of the Journal o f Manufacturing Science and Engineering, and is a registered professional engineer and certified manufacturing engineer.

It can't be helped...

While this book is a fantastic overview of all things materials and their many, many, many different methods of processing, the text is beyond dry when it comes to actual readability. A few weeks could have been set aside in the writing process to make the text far less formulaic and repetitive than it is currently, but that effort was obviously not made.

However, its impossible to fault a textbook for being dry, and that's the only reason the single star was docked. The descriptions of the manufacturing processes and their applications, on the other hand, were detailed and helpful, and the book is recommended in that regard.

Sweet deal

The book did not go in as much detail as my professor did, but that really is not that big of a problem. I plan on keeping this book since it is relatively cheap (cost-wise) and has a ton of useful information in it. I would definitely recommend this book as a shelf reference book (not to carry around since it is extremely heavy). Great book....I highly recommend picking it up if you are a materials scientist/engineer or have any overlapping field of study that concerns processing at all (every physical product requires processing).

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME

Being a junior mechanical engineering student, this text is whats used for the lecture. I use this textbook a lot and it is very helpful: all of the processes are well explained, why they should/should not be used in situations. Also this book makes a good effort to take the raw material and mix with facts beyond just when to use a process to get you actually interested in manufacturing. For example how investment casting (aka lost wax process) allowed people to create intricate statues.

Every week a quiz was given and studying for an hour with the book an notes helped me ace it every time.

**This semester I had expected that manufacturing would be the driest class; in fact this is one of the classes that I most enjoyed. I'm sure it was partly due because of my professor but this book certainly didn't hurt.

It doesn't spark joy.

I didn't know what to expect because this was a new item and had no reviews when I ordered it. It is described as a stationary item so I was hoping for a mostly blank book with questions leading me through decluttering different areas of the house or my life. It turns out to be just a gratitude journal. There are a few quotes scattered throughout the book but it's basically a page for each day of the year, with 3 spaces for 3 different years, where you can record what sparked joy that day. I don't hate it but I was hoping for something a little more KonMari specific like a weekly or monthly focus on a particular area of life. As a gratitude journal it is okay. I was just hoping for something more.

Perfect for recording the moments in your life that spark joy! This is a personal journal- not a guide to any other book.

I absolutely love this journal. It is exactly what I was looking for: a beautiful book to jot down memories from the day that sparked joy. I plan to use it with my kids as a way to keep us mindful of the happy things in life. Each page is devoted to one day of the year (e.g. January 13) and divided into three sections so that the book can be used three years in a row (e.g. 2016, 2017, 2018). This way when I am writing in my journal on the night of January 13th, 2018 I can look back and see what sparked joy for me exactly two years earlier. Some people have unfairly given this book low ratings because the journal is not what they expected. Yes, the description for this journal is a little unclear, but for what this book is intended to be, it in every way lives up to its purpose. And it is so pretty!

Love it...create a revolutionary shift in your mindset by asking yourself " Does it spark joy?"

I will admit, this was not not what I expected (I didn't really know what to expect but I reasoned if it was from Marie Kondo, I wanted it..) I love the feel of it, the size of it ( it matches perfectly the size of her other two books in height, making it a great set for deeply delving into Marie Kondo's principles, and one you can keep out on a table or counter or under your pillow to remind you of your desire of getting into the habit of "the life-changing magic of tiding up". I especially like the 3 year journal aspect of it and the space in which to write of things that spark joy everyday.. I find that this journal is a perfect tool to help me in discovering the daily things I do that truly bring me joy. Helping me choose more of those activities that do bring me joy and discarding more of the the ones that do not spark joy for me. It helps you focus on the positive and ties in perfectly with her other 2 books. It is a process helper. Great Job Marie! Thank you. I have ordered one for a friend that is on the same path as I, and another for myself so that I will have 6 years of joy gathering data. One thing I do think would help is to let buyers be able to look inside the journal so that they might understand more clearly what they are buying. I am good with this as I said, because it works very well for me as I have already read her other 2 books and I see how perfectly they dovetail and go together.

Definitive Manual for a Useful Therapeutic Intervention

I have used Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) in my practice for almost a decade. It is one of the primary physical medicine/sport medicine tools I use, in addition to interferential, auriculotherapy, therapeutic ultrasound, acupuncture, and tui na. I have a robust referral network that includes several chiropractors, physical therapists, massage therapists, and pain management specialists. My referral partners often send people to me because I can get results with their patients when their own modalities alone are not sufficient. FSM plays a significant part in that effectiveness.

The previous reviewer's knee-jerk assessment that this book has "very significant problems" is both overstated and naive. Dr. McMakin, along with her staff and advisors, pretty much single-handedly developed FSM. In doing so, she developed tools that allowed other clinicians to do the same intervention. To say that there are problems with her book because she has a financial stake in her approach is like saying Dean Ornish is conflicted because he benefits from his writings on a heart-health diet.

Visionaries like Dr. McMakin, Dr. Ornish, Dr. Oz, Dr. Weil, and Dr. Starwynn, who developed the Acutron Mentor machine and protocols I also use, employ books to promote themselves, their products, and their approach. Anyone who is not aware that a book is a marketing and education tool, not a research study, or who thinks they can learn to safely use a physical medicine tool without hands-on training in a seminar should perhaps spend a bit more time educating themselves about reality before making pronouncements in a public forum. Dr. McMakin has worked tirelessly to promote research within this field, but when and if other researchers will take up that opportunity is not her responsibility.

That being said, I was a bit disappointed with the book after having waited so long for it to be published. As other reviewers have noted, "Frequency Specific Microcurrent in Pain Management" is an excellent introduction to the clinical utilization of FSM and I am grateful to have such a well-rounded reference text. I have not yet had a chance to view the included DVD, but I am sure it will useful, not only for myself, but in educating the newer members of my staff about what FSM is so they can, in turn, better educate our patients. I would have appreciated some discussion about the more complex conditions FSM practitioners face, however, such as migraines, as well as more guidance about other systems FSM can treat, especially the GI, endocrine, and immune systems.

Overall, however, I am happy with the book and highly recommend it to thoughtful clinicians who are looking for effective non-pharmacological, non-surgical options in managing a variety of clinical problems, particularly those involving pain and functional disorders.

Review

This is a remarkable book for the licensed care providers. First, I must say that I have been interested in Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) for some time. I've taken the Core course and studied the Advanced course. I've seen FSM and I've experienced it. This technology works. On one channel, each frequency is specific to a type of tissue, and resonates with that tissue. On the other channel, each frequency resonates with a specific condition. The energy used in FSM is the same strength as that generated by a living cell. This may sound as though it comes to you directly from Star Fleet Medical. We tend to forget that we already live in the space age. This is technology that is available today. We're on a learning curve, and the journey is amazing. I had Barrett's esophagus, with several other esophageal areas biopsied and found abnormal. Those tissues are healthy now. FSM helps keep me functioning at the level that I do.

The author of this book has blazed a strong trail in this field. Dr. McMakin is an explorer in a vast new world. In this book, she tells us a little about how this science developed, and explains the importance of the medical studies that show FSM positively affect levels of some of our important biochemicals. The effectiveness of FSM on fibromyalgia, myofascial pain and neuropathic (nerve -generated) pain have been also documented in medical journals. This book tells you how you can treat a variety of illnesses, including those that are usually treated with involve invasive options. This technology can't restore tissue that is no longer there. It can treat a very wide variety of conditions in a wide variety of tissues. This book can change you. It can change your practice. It can open you up to new possibilities. If you are not willing to venture out of a comfortable rut, this book is not for you. If you want to be able to change energy levels in your patients/clients; if you want to get at the source of some of the symptoms; if your ready for a new adventure in healing, get this book. If you already are using FSM, you still want get the book It's one of the best health care investments you can make.

Relief at last!!!

I became a Microcurrent patient year ago to try to find something for pain. I have Fibromyalgia, PTSD and severe Arthritis of the spine and have become allergic to all opiates. I have been at this for years. I am studying more and more to learn. Who knows what comes next? Amazon.com has become my book source even fortraining manuals and instructional tracts. Always prompt delivery and so much available.
