About the Author
Larry J. Siegel was born in the Bronx in 1947. While living on Jerome Avenue and attending City College of New York (CCNY) in the 1960s, he was swept up in the social and political currents of the time. He became intrigued with the influence contemporary culture had on individual behavior: Did people shape society, or did society shape people? He applied his interest in social forces and human behavior to the study of crime and justice. After graduating from CCNY, he attended the newly opened program in criminal justice at the State University of New York at Albany, earning both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees there. After completing his graduate work, Dr. Siegel began his teaching career at Northeastern University and has also held teaching positions at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, and in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell (UML). Now a Professor Emeritus, he continues to teach courses on criminology and criminal justice in UML'S online master's degree program. Dr. Siegel has written extensively in the area of crime and justice, including books on juvenile law, delinquency, criminology, corrections, criminal justice, and criminal procedure. He is a court-certified expert on police conduct and has testified in numerous legal cases.

John L. Worrall is Professor of Criminology at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). A Seattle native, he received a B.A., double majoring in psychology and law and justice, from Central Washington University in 1994. Both his M.A. (criminal justice) and Ph.D. (political science) were received from Washington State University, where he graduated in 1999. From 1999-2006, he was a member of the criminal justice faculty at California State University, San Bernardino. He joined UTD in Fall 2006, was promoted to full professor in 2008, and in 2010 was selected to direct the criminology program, a position he held until 2015. He now directs UTD's executive M.S. program in Justice Administration and Leadership. Dr. Worrall has published articles and book chapters on a variety of topics ranging from legal issues in policing to crime measurement, having recently been ranked one of the most prolific sole and lead authors in the discipline. Courses he regularly teaches (and has authored texts for) include introductory criminal justice, criminal procedure, and crime control policy. Dr. Worrall is active in the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the American Society of Criminology, and a number of regional associations. He regularly works with local criminal justice agencies on evaluation projects and continues to serve as editor of the journal Police Quarterly.

Europe's Long Century: Volume 2: 1945-Present: Society, Politics, and Culture, by Spencer M. Di Scala

The twentieth century has been interpreted as a short century marked by extremes. According to this view, the century lasted only from 1914 to 1989 or 1991. These dates coincide with the rise and fall of communism that came to power in Russia in 1917 and ended with the fall of the Berlin wall (1989) or that of the Soviet Union (1991). Thus, the concept of a short century is unduly influenced by a Cold War perspective. In Europe's Long Century, Spencer Di Scala presents an alternative view that will be more helpful to undergraduate history students in the twenty-first-century: namely, that twentieth century Europe was actually a "long" century lasting approximately from 1900 to 2000 with patterns and antecedents discernible before the century began and that continue to be elaborated today.

Comprehensive, current, and affordable, Europe's Long Century integrates the histories of Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Balkans that are often neglected in similar treatments. It also thoroughly covers the role of science in shaping modern European life, and the book's "biographical sketches" profile the lives of important--though not always well known--people who influenced Europe's long century.

Review

"In Europe's Long Century, Spencer Di Scala persuasively argues that the last hundred years of European history was not a 'short century,' one marked only by the rise and fall of communism. A longer history was unfolding. The trends and main issues we are coping with today have deep roots: science and its dilemmas, migrations, ethnic and religious conflicts, and the hopes and disillusions of an integrated Europe in a multipolar world. Di Scala has written an innovative, comprehensive, and courageous book. After reading it, we know more of our history and more of ourselves."--Giuliano Amato, former Prime Minister of Italy and Professor Emeritus at the European University Institute of Florence

"Europe's Long Century is in the front ranks of modern European textbooks. It is accessible and engaging, and is the product of substantial research and reflection. This book delves into geographic and thematic corners of the continent that are often neglected. And while comprehensive in its coverage, it manages to remain concise."--John Cox, University of North Carolina, Charlotte

"Europe's Long Century is a well-written survey that nicely balances relevant themes and countries/regions covered. It gives students the necessary tools for doing further research. Each chapter is clear and concise, written in straightforward language. This will be a real asset for students and instructors alike."--David A. Messenger, University of Wyoming

Excellent book on Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
By Amazon Customer
I’m glad this book was published because it’s hard to find clearly explained material on Google Tag Manager. It starts from the fundamentals and can get pretty advanced. The book has a sort of workbook feel. It explains a concept and then takes you step-by-step on how to implement that concept. You should do the exercises if you want to get anything out of this book. I definitely recommend you get this book if you’re interested in learning more about Google Analytics and especially Google Tag Manager.

Good introductory book. Don't be intimidated by the "for Developers" in its title.
By Sakis
This is a good, readable, and practical book about Google Tag Manager (GTM). To get the most out of it you need, of course, to practice with GTM. Don't be intimidated by the "for Developers" in its title. This is not a highly technical book. It's more of an introduction targeted to people who have a little experience with Google Analytics, and GTM.

A Journey Back Home, by Rabjot Singh Isher

Angad is born and brought up in Delhi. The sudden demise of his parents and his break-up with his girlfriend left him shattered and caused a deep hurt on his psyche, and he thus tried to find instant gratification in unethical pleasures like illicit sex, alcohol, etc. Life’s been reduced to nothing more than a time period for pleasure and fun for him until he meets Nayab, a unique girl. The girl provides him valuable insights from her personal experience and takes him on a journey of self-renewal. In the process, she quotes the distinguished masters like Kabeer, Guru Nanak, Buddha and a few others to illustrate the difference between spirituality and superstition. Finding practical relevance of the message shared by her to his own life, Angad slowly and gradually starts bringing changes in his life and in his understanding of everything that exists around him. The insights that Nayab shares with him and that makes all the difference comes from as diverse fields as Psychology, Science, Spirituality and Love. The title A Journey Back Home refers to the journey that Angad makes to his physical home (after greatly disliking it initially) inspired by the real journey that he makes to his spiritual home (heart).

Genuine try about long lasting peace in life
By Vishal Phonsa
The author has beautifully tried to describe how a person gets bogged down by daily life hurdles, distractions, fear for the unknown and tries to find "happiness" in worldly pursuits which are short lived. While quoting various philosophies and saints spread over different time the story brings home a common theme. A well researched book which is not only about spirituality but also about other aspects of life. A genuine try by the author to create awareness about "long lasting" peace. And reading this book once isn't enough, one would want to come back.

Great book with profound Spiritual insights
By Jazz
I gave five stars although the book had it's shortcoming, but overall it was an entertaining and an enlightening read. Being a Sikh myself I have always tried to associate the teachings of Sikh Gurus with many spiritual Giants of different times and in that light has always tried to find a common link between the profound spiritual ideas that are relevant in today's scenario, I seriously wished that someone come up with this idea and the writer has indeed come with it emphatically.

This book is a collection of gems of great wisdom of Spiritual Masters and researchers like Carl Jung and Albert Einstein in the backdrop of an entertaining life changing story of Angad (the main character). The writer needs to be appreciated for his sincere effort and being his first book deserves a standing ovation. Anyone interested in deep spiritual insights of great masters, teachers, gurus and want to find sense in those teachings with today's life must read it.

God: The Most Unpleasant Character in All Fiction, by Dan Barker

What words come to mind when we think of God? Merciful? Just? Compassionate? In fact, the Bible lays out God’s primary qualities clearly: jealous, petty, unforgiving, bloodthirsty, vindictive—and worse! Originally conceived as a joint presentation between influential thinker and bestselling author Richard Dawkins and former evangelical preacher Dan Barker, this unique book provides an investigation into what may be the most unpleasant character in all fiction. Barker combs through both the Old and New Testament (as well as thirteen different editions of the “Good Book”), presenting powerful evidence for why the Scripture shouldn’t govern our everyday lives. This witty, well-researched book suggests that we should move past the Bible and clear a path to a kinder and more thoughtful world.

Review
Advance Praise for God: The Most Unpleasant Character in All Fiction

“If you thought Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion was hard on religion, gird your loins for Dan Barker’s book on God because he makes the New Atheists sound like diplomatic accommodationists in his unrelenting deconstruction of the Bible, a book he knows better than the Four Horsemen combined since he used to preach from it. You will never read the Good Book the same way again.”
—Michael Shermer, publisher of Skeptic magazine, monthly columnist for Scientific American, and the author of The Moral Arc: How Science and Reason Bend Humanity toward Truth, Justice, and Freedom

“Dawkins and Barker have both written books encouraging readers to become atheists. Who knew all they had to do was direct everyone to the Bible?”—Hemant Mehta, Editor of FriendlyAtheist.com

“With a twinkle that belies the canard that atheists are ‘strident’ and ‘militant,’ Dan Barker cheerfully refutes the common claim that morality comes from the God of the bible.”—Steven Pinker, author of How the Mind Works and The Better Angels of Our Nature

“After reading Barker’s book, the absurdity and monstrosity of God is undeniable. Let us hope that Barker takes humanity a few steps further down the path of abandoning religion.”— Marshall Brain, author of How “God” Works

“Dan Barker, a former preacher who knows the Bible far better than most Christians, has produced an excellent handbook for those who doubt the moral depravity of the biblical god.”—Dr. Hector Avalos, Professor of Religious Studies at Iowa State University and author of The Bad Jesus: The Ethics of New Testament Ethics (2015)

“Barker’s scholarly index will both stupefy and enlighten even the well-informed reader. And it proves beyond doubt that Dawkins’ condemnation was right—there is no more repugnant character in all of fiction than the Judeo-Christian god.”—Hector Garcia, PsyD, author of Alpha God

“Rich in reason, candescent in clarity—this is a must-read for any serious student of the Bible.”—Marian Wiggins, former senior editor, children’s curriculum, Gospel Light Publications

Richard Dawkins was the Charles Simonyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford. He is a Fellow of both the Royal Society, and the Royal Society of Literature, and has Honorary Doctorates in both science and literature. Great content, beautiful illustrations, and highly readable
By Andrew L. Seidel
I loved this book. Dan Barker really did his homework. Everything from the content, to the foreword, to the beautiful illustrations by Gustave Dor, make this book worth reading.

In the foreword, Richard Dawkins explains that he got more flak for one particular sentence in the God Delusion than the rest of the book combined: "The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”

Apparently, Dawkins wanted to write a book defending the sentence but didn't know the bible well enough. Who better to take up the mantle than an ex-preacher? So Dan Barker did the job, with one chapter for each description in that sentence. The result is a highly readable smackdown of biblical proportions.

Barker actually goes further than Dawkins did. As Barker puts it: “Dawkins was too kind.” He adds eight more adjectives—each with a chapter—and a chapter on whether Jesus is any better than the Old Testament tyrant.

All in all, it would be difficult to argue that the biblical deity or his son has any redeeming qualities after reading Barker’s thorough takedown.

Reason And Common Sense
By A Customer
Whenever someone start's to talk about the bible, whether it be a priest, deacon or any other lay person, you can be guaranteed it will always be about the feel good stories about love, salvation, forgiveness or anything else that makes one feel good and secure. Dan Barker exposes the bible from all angles, not the good, but the bad and the ugly.

Quoting directly from the bible, be prepared to read how God is unjust, bloodthirsty, bully, angry, racist and just about anything else that will make one doubt their faith in this book. I'm sure the faithful will condemn this book, saying it has been misinterpreted or taken out of context, that we need some scholar to explain things and that they have all the answers. Unfortunately, they like to twist and turn things to fit their agenda and beliefs.

I'm sure God would be smart enough to write a book that us mere mortals could understand in plain English, without any double talk or sleight of hand. With all of these questions concerning the Bible, along with discrepancies and contradictions, one has to conclude the Bible was written by man. God needs to send down a revised edition without the hand of man directing it.

Would recommend the following for more reading.
1) Godless by Dan Barker
2)The Skeptic's Annotated Bible by Steve Wells
3)God's Problem by Bart Ehrman

Oh my goodness.
By Dr. Paul Sommer
Unbelievable. So glad all this didn't happen. But this fictional character did exist in the minds and hearts of people for so long. Way too long. The book is shock and awe at what the bible contains. Thank goodness for cherry picking and thank goodness for the enlightenment because otherwise we might still be all to familiar firsthand with this character of fiction.
